The Estate

Peter Wirth (1951–2018) painted, drew and printed for four decades, and he photographed, numbered and described every work himself. That archive is the heart of Divine Editions.

A painter who catalogued his own work

Peter Wirth was born in Bochum, Germany, in 1951. He trained as a typesetter and studied graphic design at the Folkwang School in Essen. His paintings were shown at the Great Art Exhibition NRW in Düsseldorf, at the Haus der Kunst in Munich, at the Museum Folkwang in Essen and, in 1993, at the Egyptian Museum in Berlin. Alongside his painting he kept a precise catalogue: every work received a number, a photograph and its details. The result is an archive of nearly 15,000 works.

From the archive to your wall

We select the works for the gallery from this archive, series by series: flowers and still lifes, birds, landscapes, portraits and the Berlin group. Each image is checked for colour by hand before it is offered as a fine art print. Every print is made to order in a fine art atelier.

Every sheet has its place in the archive

Each print carries a registration number. It records the sheet in our archive with the work, the size and the date. The certificate that comes with every order shows the work, gives its catalogue number and bears the name of Angelika Hannig-Wirth, the artist's widow, who manages the estate. See the certificate

Clearly described

The prints are an open edition, made posthumously from the original works. The registration number is an archive number, not an edition count. Where the artist's signature appears in the image, it is part of the original and printed with it.

The estate keeps growing

Further works from the archive are added over time. To hear first which series comes next, join our letters below.
